This morning, a homeowner in another state was headed out to work in their yard and ran into someone snooping around their garage. They were asked to leave, and were shocked to discover that they didn’t have the right to “check out a property” before they made an offer. This homeowner had listed their home for sale, but no appointment had been made for a showing.
If you see a property listed for sale online or a FOR SALE sign on a lawn, that property still belongs to someone. Even if it’s a company or a bank, you need permission to access that property. Before you drive or walk onto that property, PLEASE make a call and make sure you have permission to be there. Most of the time, that will involve you having a real estate agent with you.
We’re not trying to force you into using an agent if you don’t want to. When that property is listed for sale, the security of that property is something that is discussed and assured. Even if there is a sign in the yard, and if you don’t have an appointment or obtain permission, you’re on private property without that permission. There are people who will “defend” their property against trespassers. Even if it is vacant land, get permission. Some of the lands we list are hunting land. Some have electric fences or other hazards.
Stay safe. Call and make an appointment to see a property that’s for sale, even if it is vacant land. If you’re shopping for property in upstate SC, I’d love to show it to you!
